I've struggled over the last few years with understanding how the traditional/institutional church in North America has arrived at where it is today. As I attempt to understand the Biblical narrative more thoroughly and the implications of the kingdom for today, I'm often baffled by the ecclesiology the church employs to live out its missional calling. Why does the church go about what it does Sunday mornings? How is what the church is doing help to facilitate the growth of the kingdom. I suppose I'm de-constructing church. I love the church. I believe in the church. I just am lost as to how we've gotten to where we are today as I read the dynamic story recorded in the book of Acts. Things have got to change.
Serving outside of the church "walls" and leading others into the community to learn how to be the hands and feet of Jesus has been invigorating. The work we have been doing down at the shelter and rubbing shoulders with the families has brought life to my soul. I've seen Christ in the college students who tutor the kids. I've seen Christ in the families who struggle to make ends meet. I've seen Christ daily outside the traditional walls of the church. I suppose through this process the shelter has saved my soul.

Hi Derek nad Meagan-
I like your new blog. Derek I always enjoy reading your posts. We can relate to much of what is going on in your lives...especially this post. We have seen the dark side of the institutional North American church recently and are struggling to find our place in the local body. It is great refreshment to see Christ at work outside of the 4 walls and programs of the institutional church. Meagan, the girls are beautiful. As a fellow stay at home mom, I can relate to your concern about having nothing to say. At least nothing that anyone else will be interested in. If you want some encouragement, check our blog. Definately nothing deep there...just pictures of the kids and thoughts, (when I can put 2 coherent ones together), from a stay-at-home mom.
I think we will be in Santa Cruz in July. If you guys are still around, it would be fun to catch up with you in person.

Keri,
Thanks for commenting and your words of encouragement. I know Meagin has read your blog in the past I think does so when you post. I know I try to keep up with you all. We would love to see you in July if we can make it work to get together when you're in town.
Blessings!
